Animal MyoFascial Release (MFR)
for Cats, Dogs, Horses (Equines), Rabbits and Other Pets

by Gina McCulloch D.C., IVCA, IEBWA

What is animal MyoFascial Release (MFR) for cats, dogs, horses (equines), rabbits and other pets button - grey/white yingyang picture What is it?

Myofascial release therapy for cats, dogs, horses (equines) and other animals is a holistic, non invasive approach to the restoration and maintenance of your pet’s good health.

A drug free treatment, it can provide considerable pain relief for your pet from musculoskeletal problems. Practitioners use their hands to gently stretch the muscles and fascia to release restrictions allowing the body to function optimally and heal itself naturally.

It is often referred to as an alternative, integrative, complementary, natural and / or holistic medicine for cats, dogs, horses (equines) rabbits and other animals and pets.

How does animal MyoFascial Release (MFR) for cats, dogs, horses (equines), rabbits and other pets work button - grey/white yingyang picture  How does it work?

‘Myo’ refers to muscle and ‘fascia’ is a connective tissue that surrounds all parts of the body (bones, muscles, nerves, organs etc).

For your pet’s body to function optimally muscles and fascia should be relaxed and able to stretch and respond to the body’s needs. If muscles or fascia are too tense and tight, movement and range of motion will be restricted and pain and discomfort can result.

MyoFascial therapists for animals apply pressure and work on a small, specific area of muscle and fascia at a time. They stretch the tight area and move on when it relaxes, gradually equalising myofascial tension throughout your pet’s (e.g. cat, dog, horse, rabbit etc.) body. Treatment is gentle and done by hand. Therapists are guided by your pet’s responses.

Myofascial Release therapy for animals facilitates the body’s natural ability to heal by releasing restrictions in the muscles and connective tissues, allowing the body to become rebalanced and realigned.
