Animal Naturopathy
for Cats, Dogs, Horses (Equines), Rabbits and Other Pets
by Gina McCulloch D.C., IVCA, IEBWA
What is it?
Naturopathy for cats, dogs, horses (equines) and other animals is a holistic, preventive form of medicine using natural therapies to facilitate your pet’s body’s innate ability to heal itself. It does not use drugs or surgery.
Naturopaths use natural substances and remedies to restore and maintain a healthy balance internally (within your pet’s body) and externally (in your pet’s living environment).
It is often referred to as an alternative, integrative, complementary, natural and / or holistic medicine for cats, dogs, horses (equines) and other animals and pets.
How does it work?
Naturopaths consider the body to be a self healing organism affected by physical, emotional, and environmental factors. Disturbance in one of these areas affects the other areas.
By providing your pet’s body with the correct stimuli and environment, naturopathy for animals allows nature’s inherent self healing process to restore and maintain good health and treat symptoms of ‘dis-ease’.
Naturopathy for pets can include the use of; herbal medicine, flower extracts, homeopathy, manipulation, massage, water, light, heat and air therapies.
Naturopaths for animals may also give advice on; food and nutrition, your pet’s (e.g. cat, dog, horse, rabbit etc.) living environment as well as guidance on appropriate exercise, rest and relaxation.
What can it help?
There is evidence based research and/or anecdotal evidence that Animal Naturopathy has helped cats, dogs, horses (equines), rabbits and other pets with:
- Arthritis
- Digestive disorders
- Internal health problems
- Metabolic disorders imbalances
- Reproductive problems
- Skin problems
