Animal Osteopathy
for Cats, Dogs, Horses (Equines), Rabbits and Other Pets
by Gina McCulloch D.C., IVCA, IEBWA
What is it?
Osteopathy for cats, dogs, horses (equines) and other animals founding principal is that “structure governs function”.
Animal osteopaths use their hands to massage, manipulate and mobilise the muscles and joints of your pet to achieve correct structure so their body can function properly and help heal itself.
It is a holistic, drug-free approach to restoring and maintaining your pet’s good health.
It is often referred to as an alternative, integrative, complementary, natural and / or holistic medicine for cats, dogs, horses (equines) rabbits and other animals and pets.
How does it work?
Osteopaths for animals believe that anatomical structure and physiological function are interdependent.
Pain and ‘dis-ease’ often stem from abnormalities in body structure and function, so structural integrity of the body is important to achieve and maintain the good health of your pet.
Animal Osteopaths detect and treat damaged parts of your pet’s body (including muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints).
They restore tissue flexibility and correct faulty structure by massaging muscles, manipulating bones and mobilising joints.
Restoring normal body mechanics and correcting nutritional and environmental factors, facilitates your pet’s (e.g. cat, dog, horse, rabbit etc.) natural ability to heal themself.
